United We Stand at Back to School to School for Doctors

I’ve been the Managing Editor for Selene River Press for over eight years. When I started, I had little knowledge of holistic nutrition and had never heard of Dr. Royal Lee or Standard Process. I did my best to be “healthy” from what I knew. My mother had always leaned towards holistic over medicine and whole foods as much as possible, but it was never top of mind for me. Working and learning from SRP has, inevitably, changed a great deal of my health beliefs (absolutely for the better!) But I’ll never forget my first Back to School for Doctors (BTSfD) event I attended in 2016.

Two memories strike me the most when I remember that event. One, the electrifying energy of it. You can feel it, almost like a living pulse emanating from the room. It was (and still is) energizing and exciting to be part of. Second, the power and peace of having so many like-minded practitioners and self-healthers in the same space. There truly is a peacefulness about being surrounded by so many people from all over the country sharing one core belief. That is what I love most about this event, and here’s why.

Let’s face it, the health “world” has not gotten any better over the recent years. It seems there’s more misinformation and health fads popping up every day, each with their own (often sinister) desires. Big Pharma sure isn’t making things easier I’ll tell you that! It’s either a new so-called health trend or amazing new fix-it-all drug accosting my inbox and social media daily. It’s overwhelming. It’s exhausting. It’s confusing. It’s often just plain wrong.

“Vegan is the only way! Save your family from cancer and be vegan!”

“The Carnivore Diet is the best way to avoid cancer!”

“Struggling with anxiety or depression? Here’s a list of drugs that will help! Don’t worry about the side effects, it’s normal.”

“Organic is a scam! It doesn’t make a difference and it’s just more money.”

“You are ruining your children’s childhood if you don’t let them eat the same foods as the rest of the kids.”

These are ALL phrases I have heard on multiple occasions. Some make me roll my eyes. Others enrage me. And some even make me want to cry a little at the barrage of false information being pushed on me. And then I go to Back to School for Doctors and the obnoxious noises of the world are silenced. We are all together to learn, grow, and share the principles of wholism. We each expand our ability to apply these original principles which, ultimately, cancel out the fallacies of the so-called “health industry.” At BTSfD we experience the teachings of Dr. Lee and Mark Anderson. And we add to our home and patient libraries resources we can count on from SRP, resources that support an ongoing education in the art and science of wholistic nutrition.

In a world of such divisiveness and polarization, I am grateful to have a few days of unity. I am grateful for Back to School and I am giddy with anticipation at the next one in just a few weeks’ time!

Will I see you there?!
