Food is always in the news because our fight to protect our right to good food is alive and well. And that fight is on 24/7 because of government overreach and overregulation. Imagine people who are willing to work hard on the land and in the barn every day to bring superior nutrition to your family table. Then imagine these same people being harassed, arrested, shut down, and bankrupted by our own government. For what? For trying to keep whole food available to you. Now imagine what you could possibly do about that.
One of our favorite organizations leading the fight is The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. FTCLDF is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization whose objective is to “…defend the rights of sustainable family farms and artisan food producers to make their products available to consumers in a manner that protects, preserves and enhances the environment and its natural resources, products that include but are not limited to meat and meat products, poultry, eggs, raw milk and raw milk products, fruits and vegetables, lacto-fermented foods and beverages, prepared foods, and bread and other baked goods directly to consumers without a license or permit.”
FTCLDF has made great strides in protecting our food sovereignty by fighting for our access to raw milk and farm products. Sally Fallon writes, “Their recent win for Vernon Hershberger is, in my opinion, the greatest court victory for the raw milk movement in the United States.” Read about more of FTCLDF’s victories here.
As you vote with your dollar in the marketplace, remember to protect the farmers and the food you love by becoming an FTCLDF member, or make a general donation to FTCLDF. When the fight gets tough, let’s stand with our farmers where the battle takes place: in the courtroom.
