Do you have a bird feeder in your yard? Imagine peeking out the window of your house to watch a robin perched on the bird feeder and, under it, a blue jay pecking on the patio. They are both eating the same bird feed yet singing a different song. We can all wonder and marvel at their colorful uniqueness and their striking similarities. We can see that they exude the properties of life, each in their own way. We wonder: Why is it so? Where does this Life Force come from? Is there a Universal Intelligence that gives to the birds all that they are? D.D. Palmer and B.J. Palmer based the foundation of chiropractic on the major premise that a Universal Intelligence is in all created matter—the birds, you and I, and even the foods we eat. This Universal Intelligence gives creation its properties and functions, maintaining its many forms of life.
Our human body is like a cord made of three strands braided together by Universal Intelligence. A three-stranded cord is not easily broken unless one or more of its cords are frayed and weakened. How do we know if the cords of our bodies are strong or frayed and weak? D.D. Palmer recognized this three-stranded cord consisting of a physical strand, a biochemical/nutritional strand, and an emotional strand. With each cord being inherently strong and equally balanced within our body, we manifest the highest level of function and health. All cells are in communication. We are constantly being transformed and renewed in the cellular structures and functions of our physical bodies.
The central control and command for this cord is the function of the brain talking to the body, and then the body communicating back to the brain. This communication, through the nervous system, is the gatekeeper of our health. It is always on call, 24-7, reviewing, renewing, and coordinating functions in response to each of the three strands of health. This allows the highest level of health to function in our bodies.
The physical strand is the actual body, composed of millions of cells. These cells are designed by Universal Intelligence to do millions of functions so that we can embrace life to the fullest. Movement is the expression of Universal Intelligence; moving is living. Again, we must always remember the physical body is constantly communicating with the brain by way of signals passing through the spinal cord, embedded in the spinal column. There is movement, action, and reaction a million times per second. This is our physical strand. It must be routinely conditioned to maintain its strength and resilience.
The biochemical/nutritional strand in the body consists of the building blocks and fuel needed to maintain and run the physical strand. It is the quality of the fuel (the foods we ingest) that will produce the quality of all cellular functions and energy in our body. Have you heard the phrase, garbage in, garbage out? Instead, why not build and maintain our body with real foods and real-food vitamin concentrates? Greatness in, greatness out! How does our body know how to digest, process, and assimilate foods, vitamins, and minerals? That is how we were Universally and Intelligently created. How does it know to divide proteins from fats, send vitamin A to our eyeballs or calcium to our bones and immune system and form a calcium cloud to corral those attacking viral and bacterial barbarians? Is this not Universal Intelligence Innately displaying its existence through all the cellular reactions?
Real food, vitamins, minerals, and live enzymes are at the core of a strong and resilient biochemical/nutritional strand. Standard Process Whole food concentrates provide these necessary building blocks. For the benefit of ourselves and our patients, we need to put on our full armor and fight for the causes of health to succeed in the battle for the health of humanity. Let’s make war on sickness by releasing the Life Force that communicates through our spines and recommend eating real health building foods. (Where are the mandates for the causes of health? Everyone has a spine. Why are there not mandates that everyone have a chiropractic and nutritional checkup?)
The third cord of health is our emotions. We are all intimately connected with our emotions, and emotions directly affect our physiology. D.D. Palmer states in The Science, Art and Philosophy of Chiropractic, “While it is a fact, that thots [sic] are things, are entities, that we influence each other and ourselves for good or bad by our thinking, it is also a fact that it is a mental condition, in and of ourselves. It is one of the three methods I recognize of creating normal and abnormal nerve and muscle tension.” We all can attest to this connection. Listen to some examples of how we talk. That’s so disgusting it makes me want to puke! Emotions affect the nerves of the stomach. I was so afraid I wet my pants! Emotions affect the nerves of the bladder and kidneys. Each and every organ in our body is related to an emotion, just as D.D. Palmer declared. The Neuro-Emotional technique developed and taught by Dr. Scott Walker provides practitioners with skills needed to find, correct, and release the toxic “thots” or emotions affecting one’s body physiology.
We are all like the birds. We look different and sing different songs, but we all are controlled by our nervous system in the same created blueprint. We all live in physical bodies that move and grow. We all need nutritious food. We all feel and express our emotions, both good and bad. I guess D.D. and B.J. Palmer were ahead of their time. Royal Lee was ahead of his time. All were voices crying out from the mountaintop about how to protect and maintain one’s health. Let’s all pull together with the inherent strength of the three-stranded cord of health. There is more to who and what we are than meets the eye. The evidence of Universal Intelligence is on display in our bodies every second. Let’s lift up our voices in unison and proclaim the causes of health from the mountaintops.
