Constipation:
A Natural, Long-Term Solution

Constipation can be a major medical issue if not properly treated. Fecal buildup and retention can cause significant internal damage and related health issues, which doctors often recommend treating with more water, high-fiber foods, and prescription medicine.

If the problem is a moderate case of constipation, such treatments can help. But such short-term solutions aren’t sustainable for chronic constipation—at least not without creating a dependency on medicine and/or other artificial solutions.

Adding Lactic Acid Yeast  (originally Acidophilus Yeast) from Standard Process to your diet is an organic, natural way to treat moderate to heavy chronic constipation. Lactic Acid Yeast provides lactic acid, which creates the necessary environment for healthy intestinal flora to live and flourish in the bowel. This in turn helps develop movement in your bowels while at the same time reducing or eliminating the microorganisms and viruses that cause chronic constipation.

What Is Acidophilus Yeast?

  • It is a mycelium-type yeast that’s part of our human intestinal flora. Think of it as lactic acid–loving yeast.
  • It is used to treat or prevent vaginal and oral yeast infections, diarrhea caused by taking antibiotics, and urinary tract infections.
  • Unlike other yeasts, acidophilus yeast can be created in a “stable” dehydrated form. This means the yeast can be maintained in a live state without refrigeration.

The Digestion Process

To understand how acidophilus yeast promotes natural and regular bowel movements, it’s important to understand its place in the digestion process.

As Dr. Lee describes:

“The stomach contains acids whose function is to break down protein foods, with the aid of pepsin, into peptones and proteoses, which then pass into the small intestines.

“In the small intestine, which is alkaline by nature, the protein digestion is completed, with the aid of trypsin. This is done by completing the disintegration of the partially digested proteins into their individual building blocks, or amino acids, which can then be diffused through the intestinal wall for use in the body processes. After this, the contents of the intestine must be acidified to kill the undesirable and toxic microorganisms that are contained in the food-waste derivatives, and that can only exist in an alkaline medium.

“This is where Acidophilus Yeast [Lactic Acid Yeast] enters the picture—to supply lactic acid (through the action of the acidophilus yeast organism) to acidify this intestinal mass in the large intestine and colon. Acidophilus Yeast contains no acidophilus bacilli but supplies valuable digestive enzymes that aid in the assimilation of the minerals in food and improve digestion.

“Acidophilus yeast differs from acidophilus bacilli in that it does not require a specialized carbohydrate such as milk sugar but can and will form lactic acid from any of the ordinary starches or sugars, whereas acidophilus bacilli can form lactic acid from milk sugar only. This would mean, then, that acidophilus bacilli would be of value only in proportion to the amount of milk consumed by the individual. This fact then emphasizes the superiority of acidophilus yeast over the plain acidophilus bacilli that are found in yogurt, buttermilk, raw sauerkraut, etc.”

How Acidophilus Yeast Helps the Flow

As Dr. Lee suggests, the main culprit behind chronic constipation is a deficiency of lactic acid. It feeds intestinal flora and creates the correct pH environment in the gut. Without it, your intestine cannot eliminate unhealthy bacteria that causes blockage and hardening of the stool.

When you digest acidophilus yeast, the lactic acid and enzymes start to break down and eliminate unwanted bacteria. This results in an increase in enzymes released by the yeast. And because of the more complete breakdown of food, it also increases vitamin and nutrient levels and creates the proper pH environment in the bowel, all of which helps soften the stool and reduce the obstruction. Your body will purge more regularly, reducing tension, stress, and discomfort.

In studies conducted by Dr. Royal Lee, he noted the following results in test subjects:

  • Reduced high pH levels of 8.6 to a more regular pH of 6.8–7.0 within three weeks of adding acidophilus yeast to the diet.
  • Increased bulk and weight of stool by 80 to 150 percent after 16–18 hours of starting a treatment of mycelium yeast.
  • Increased activity of regular bowel movements to a normal level on acidophilus yeast.
  • Increased supply of vitamins and enzymes to the stomach on acidophilus yeast (which helped digestion instead of just providing a lubricant for moving the blockage).

Benefits of Lactic Acid Yeast Over Other Constipation Solutions

Unlike other solutions for chronic constipation, Lactic Acid Yeast is aimed at providing a long-term and permanent solution by rebalancing the body’s vitamins, enzymes, and pH levels for natural bowel movements.

Also, acidophilus yeast is far superior to other yeasts because it isn’t simply absorbed in the upper bowels and the stomach. Common digestive aids like baker’s yeast or similar yeasts are almost entirely digested in the upper portion of the human intestinal tract, meaning the stomach doesn’t get the nutritional benefits that help restore pH levels and eliminate bad bacteria.

Therefore, acidophilus yeast in Lactic Acid Yeast provides a much more sustainable, long-term, and healthy solution to chronic constipation.
