In 1939, Dr. Weston A. Price, a dentist with a passion for nutrition research, published Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. This classic reference documents the detrimental effects of processed, refined diets on dental health.
Dr. Price had done clinical and laboratory studies in search of the causes of poor dental health but then ingeniously decided to study not those with dental disease but those without. So Dr. Price and his wife Florence traveled worldwide in search of these primitive groups of people who were on traditional diets. He found that “a chain of disturbances developed in these various primitive racial stocks starting even in the first generation after the adoption of the modernized diet and rapidly increased in severity with expressions quite constantly like the characteristic degenerative processes of our modern civilization of America and Europe.” In just one generation, the processed and refined modern diet left its injurious mark.
In 1999, The Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) was established to preserve and carry on the important work of Dr. Price in the field of nutrition research.
